Jul 29, 2023

Your jewellery pieces deserve the utmost attention during the monsoon when moisture and humidity are likely to damage them. Here is a quick guide you can follow to keep your jewellery clean.

Your precious jewellery pieces are more prone to damage during this season due to excess moisture and humidity in the air. This weather can make your jewellery look tarnished. So, we thought of bringing you a detailed guide on keeping your jewellery in great condition throughout the rainy season.

We spoke to a jewellery expert at Reliance jewels and they shared tips to clean and store your priceless treasure this monsoon.

Is your silver jewellery turning black this rainy season? Remove the tarnish by gently brushing your favourite pieces with toothpaste powder and a brush. You will see the black layer coming out. Once done, wipe with a clean cloth.

Soak your jewellery in a mix of dishwashing liquid and warm water. Soak it in for a few minutes. This will help gently scrape away all the dirt accumulated on the jewellery. Use a soft brush to clean it out. Make sure you don't scrub your jewellery roughly or you will end up damaging it. Wipe with a soft dry cloth.

One of the easiest and most effective ways to keep your jewellery clean this season is blow drying it. This is a hack for you if you carry jewellery daily. If your precious pieces get soaked up in rainwater, blow dry at the lowest heat setting. Once the water has dried out, wipe your jewellery with a soft cloth.

How you store your jewellery plays a key role in maintaining its longevity and shine. Moisture quickly attracts dust and makes your jewellery pieces look dull. Always store your jewellery in airtight cases. You can use velvet or any other soft material to wrap your jewellery. For silver jewellery, use silicone gel bags since they prevent the metal from tarnishing. It is a good idea to always store jewellery in separate boxes, it prevents scratches on the surface. Gemstones like pearl, coral, crystals, and other jewels are more prone to damage. Keep gemstones away from sprays, perfumes, and water.
