How To Polish Gold Jewellery At Home

Jul 23, 2023

It breaks our hearts when our favourite gold jewellery pieces lose their shine and look dull. No? If you are thinking of taking your precious jewellery to the jeweller, hold up, you can polish your gold jewellery at home too. Here’s a quick guide.

If you are someone who doesn't step out without carrying gold jewellery pieces, you have landed on the right page. Your favourite gold jewellery pieces lose their sparkle over the years. This is especially if you don't take your pieces off every day.

Taking your gold jewellery to the jeweller for regular polishing isn't a pocket-friendly idea. You can instead polish your gold jewellery at home using some easy hacks.

In a bowl, add water, half a teaspoon of baking soda, and one teaspoon of dishwashing soap. Mix well. Add in your gold jewellery piece. Soak it for a few minutes. Next, use a toothbrush to scrub your jewellery. Make sure you use a new brush with soft bristles to clean. Gently scrub the jewellery with the brush, don't apply a lot of pressure. Rinse off under running warm water. Repeat if the mixture doesn't wash off in one go. Dry the cloth with a soft towel.

If your gold jewellery has scratches, use a combination of water and ammonia. In a bowl, add six cups of water and one cup of ammonia. Ammonia is easily available in the market. However, you must use it safely. Do wear a pair of gloves before using this mixture. Soak your gold jewellery in this mixture for about one minute. Make sure you don't keep the jewellery soaked in for more than a minute. Wipe off using a soft cloth. See if the scratches are gone. If not, repeat.

Baking soda is one of the best ingredients to polish your gold jewellery quickly. Add warm water to a bowl. Add one teaspoon of baking soda and liquid soap. Mix well and dip your jewellery into the bowl. Soak for a few minutes. Once done, wipe off with a soft cloth. If there is dirt build-up, use a brush to clean it off. Repeat the process if required.
